“Canceled” – The homepage to Wonder Fesitval on the announcement
After the Japanese Government declared a new State of Emergency for Tokyo and the surrounding three prefectures of Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa, on Thursday night, the Wonder Festival Executive Committee announced later that event that its upcoming winter event would be canceled due to the attendance limits imposed by the central government.
The Wonder Festival Executive Committee explained that due to the government limiting (larger-sized) events to just 5,000 people, Wonder Festival 2021 Winter could not take place as “the number of exhibitors alone is close to 6,500”. This will be the second Wonder Festival canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 2020 Autumn event also canceled because the committee deemed it too difficult to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The last Wonder Festival held was the 2020 Winter event, you can read our event report about it here.

All hands were on deck to prepare for Wonder Festival 2021 Winter, with the post outlining that the committee was working with the staff at the venue as well as local governments to ensure a safe event for all. But due to the rapid rise in infections in the Greater Tokyo Area – Wonder Festival is held just outside Tokyo in Chiba prefecture, though it’s basically just one big city – the committee had to cancel the event.
Wonder Festival 2021 Winter was scheduled to be held on February 7, 2021, at Makuhari Messe with the full details on how it was to be run was to be announced on January 15. No new dates have been set at this time.
