One Piece Creator Eiichiro Oda on Demon Slayer’s Success: “I wish all manga could be like this”

During the One Piece stage at Jump Festa 2021 Online over the weekend, Luffy’s voice actor Mayumi Tanaka read a letter from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda on his thoughts of 2020, as well as his admiration for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaibas complete domination of the anime and manga landscape over the last year.

Here is that letter translated:

“Hello, all Jump Festa viewers! It’s been a really tough year for all of us. I feel there are many people who have been strongly affected by the coronavirus. I would like to applaud all the people in the industry who have worked hard to keep people in high spirits, despite the situation feeling like a dream. It’s been a year.

For Jump, Demon Slayer was absolutely incredible. It was able to help many people by entertaining them and making them feel happy. Way too incredible. I wish all manga could be like this. Somehow, even I was moved!”

With Oda being the longest-running serialized author in the magazine, it’s nice to see him praise Koyoharu Gotouge’s incredible series that has touched the hearts of many of the last few years. We look forward to seeing what Jump has in store for 2021, starting with One Piece’s 1,000th chapter!
